This workshop will cover the following two modules in the BOMA Energy Efficiency Program (otherwise known as BEEP). 

Building Automation Systems (BAS), Energy Management Information Systems (EMIS), and similar technologies are making it easier for building operators to understand and adjust building systems in real time to maximize performance. These systems use advanced metering capabilities and monitoring software to provide valuable insight into how a building uses energy and opportunities for improvement. This course will provide an introduction to advanced metering and monitoring capabilities in commercial buildings and give attendees the tools and knowledge to get the most out of their performance monitoring strategy.

Upon successfully completing this training, you'll be able to:

  • Describe the different types of metering and monitoring
  • Identify common equipment and systems to meter
  • Communicate the benefits of real time energy management and smart metering
  • Understand how to implement advanced metering and monitoring

From on-site electricity generation to energy storage, there are numerous renewable energy and other clean technologies that can drive increased energy savings at commercial property. This course will provide attendees an introductory knowledge to current, commercially available renewable and clean technologies that can cost-effectively benefit your building today.

  • Understand the different types of renewables and clean tech
  • Learn about the benefits and considerations of the different systems
  • Discuss the different structures, legal, accounting and financing options
  • Comprehend relevant operational considerations
  • Understand the RFP process and consultants
BEEP seminars qualify for continuing professional development credits for the renewal of industry designations including CMCP, RPA, FMA, CPM, ARM, SMA, SMT, CCM and are approved for GBCI Continuing Education hours for LEED designations.
Speaker Bios:
 Bo Petersen is the founding partner of Blue Ocean Energy Management. Bo provides experience and insight from his entire career spent in the energy industry.  For Exxon, Enron and Borealis, Bo managed domestic and international energy trading programs for energy risk management and to hedge future energy costs.  Bo is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and earned his Master of Business Administration from the Copenhagen Business School with a focus on strategic energy management.
 Chris Fischer currently works as an Engineer with Austin Energy's Energy Efficiency Services group. His primary role involves managing the commercial and industrial Demand Response program.  He also provides technical support for AE's Commercial Rebates programs and ERCOT’s Emergency Response Service program. Chris graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. His previous work experience also includes building maintenance in the hotel industry and project management for new construction projects and energy performance contracts. Chris has been involved with the construction of commercial office buildings, parking garages, a forensic sciences building, municipal lift/pump stations and domestic water storage systems. He is currently the Communications Director for the local Association of Energy Engineers and is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM).

Stan Pipkin is the VP Managing Director for Lighthouse Solar & has focused on customer experience for 10 years. 

Valerie Paxton is an Environmental Program Coordinator for Customer Energy Solutions at Austin Energy, where her focus is on the Solar Rebate Program.  Working in the solar industry since 2006, Valerie’s experiences run the gamut from installation, sales, and project management at various Austin solar contractors, preparing NABCEP PV training courses for Imagine Solar, and managing installations for solar panel manufacturer HelioVolt.
